Frigidaire Ice Maker Not Working: Fill Valve First, Then the Frozen Tube, Then the Module
Frigidaire ice makers stop over water delivery more than mechanism: weeping fill valves, frozen fill tubes, starved flow. The check order that works.

Our shop is on St Albion Way beside I-5, so a dry ice tray in Melody Hill, Cedar Terrace or a Town Center apartment is a short trip. We follow the water to the mold, find the failed part and put the price in writing.
When an ice maker in Mountlake Terrace stops, the ice maker itself is often the last thing at fault. The city began in 1949 with small cinderblock houses for returning veterans, and almost none of those kitchens were planned around a refrigerator with a water connection. The line was added later, usually a quarter-inch tube clamped onto the cold pipe under the sink with a saddle tap, run through the crawl space and coiled behind a fridge pushed tight into its alcove. So we start where the water starts, at that tap, and work forward to the mold.
The other half of the city looks nothing like that. Apartments and condos went up in the 1970s and 1980s, and since Arbor Village opened in 2013 the mid-rises around Town Center have added hundreds of units, with a roughly 600-apartment complex near I-5 still opening in stages through 2026. Those kitchens came with builder-grade French-door and top-freezer models with the ice maker already fitted. Their trouble is different: a fill valve that hums but barely opens, or a module that stalls halfway through a harvest. The Link station that opened in August 2024 keeps drawing new residents to Town Center, and first-year refrigerators whose ice makers never started are a regular call there: usually a shutoff left closed behind the cabinet or a line never purged of air.
In the post-war ranches and split-levels of Lake Ballinger, Melody Hill and Cascade View, kitchen remodels tend to squeeze a counter-depth refrigerator into an opening built for a much smaller one. The water line gets shoved into the gap with it. We regularly find a tube folded flat behind the fridge, a plastic line gone brittle where it passes through the floor, or a saddle tap whose tiny piercing has scaled shut with rust from the old pipe rather than from the water. None of that shows from the front, which is why the first ten minutes of our visit are usually spent with the refrigerator pulled out.
Apartments around Gateway and Town Center bring their own pattern. When a building shuts off water for plumbing work, air gets into every unit's line, and an ice maker that refills on a timer can freeze a half-filled tray into a crooked slab that jams the ejector. If you rent, the model number from the tag, given when you book, lets us confirm the part before we arrive, and we are happy to explain the finding to your property manager.
The water itself is rarely the problem. Mountlake Terrace buys Everett's Spada Lake supply through the Alderwood Water & Wastewater District, at around 12.5 ppm of hardness, so mineral crust on valves and molds is uncommon here. What wears out are coils, seals and motors. The low ground around Lake Ballinger and Terrace Creek Park tends to stay damp, so where a line passes through a crawl space there, we look for slow drips that can run for months before anyone notices. Up on Melody Hill and in Cedar Terrace, the usual culprit is a kink rather than a leak.

Most calls in town end on the water side of the refrigerator: a new ice maker fill valve, a frozen fill line thawed and protected from refreezing, or the refrigerator's main water inlet valve, the one that also feeds the door dispenser. Ice maker repair from our shop here starts at $295, the low end of pricing for our area rather than your quote. The $85 visit finds the actual cause, and the number you approve is on paper before any work begins. Approve it and the diagnostic is folded into that price; decline and the $85 is the whole bill.
Starting prices for the north Seattle area, 2026. The $85 diagnostic is included in any repair you approve, and the exact price is in the written estimate before work starts.
A valve, a thawed line or even a complete ice maker assembly almost never justifies replacing a refrigerator that still holds its temperature. In Mountlake Terrace the size of the opening often decides things too: remodeled kitchens in the 1950s and 1960s houses were often fitted around one particular counter-depth model, and a replacement that fits the same gap without cabinet work can be hard to find. If the freezer holds near 0°F and the cabinet and doors are sound, we repair. The picture changes when the ice problem is a symptom, such as a freezer slowly warming because of a sealed-system fault, or when a fridge past about fifteen years needs both a control board and an ice maker in the same year. In those cases we put the repair price and the age of the unit side by side on the written estimate and let you decide with real numbers.
Most addresses in town are one to three minutes from St Albion Way when traffic is light. Call in the morning, Monday to Saturday, and a same-day visit is likely; every one of our technicians is able to take it. Common valves, fill tubes and ice maker assemblies ride on the van, so many visits finish in one trip.
Usually not. A cartridge that is not fully turned into its housing blocks flow, and a fresh filter traps air that has to be pushed out. Reseat it, then run the door dispenser into a pitcher for a couple of minutes. If the dispenser flows well but the tray is still dry a few hours later, call us with the model number from the label inside the fresh-food section and we will take a look.
Yes. Those taps pierce the copper with a small hole, and over the years rust and debris from the pipe can close it almost completely. We check the tap, the tube and the shutoff during the diagnostic. If the restriction is in the house plumbing rather than the appliance, we show you where it is so you are not paying for a refrigerator part you do not need.
We do, along with the older apartment buildings near Gateway and 220th. Builder-grade refrigerators in newer buildings share a handful of fill valves and ice maker modules, so the model number, given on the phone or in the booking form, often lets us load the matching part. If a building water shutoff came right before the problem, mention it, because air in the line changes what we check first.
No. The city's water comes from Everett's Spada Lake supply through the Alderwood district, at roughly 12.5 ppm of hardness, which is very soft. Cloudy cubes come from trapped air, not minerals, and an off taste usually points to an old filter or ice that has sat in the bin for weeks. A water softener does nothing for an ice maker here.
