Frigidaire Ice Maker Not Working: Fill Valve First, Then the Frozen Tube, Then the Module
Frigidaire ice makers stop over water delivery more than mechanism: weeping fill valves, frozen fill tubes, starved flow. The check order that works.

Edmonds kitchens run from 1960s ramblers to view homes in the Bowl and Woodway houses with Sub-Zero built-ins. We repair the ice makers in all of them, 12–15 minutes from our shop along Edmonds Way.
Edmonds grew up the hillsides in the 1950s and 1960s, and the 1960s alone account for roughly a quarter of today's housing. A lot of those homes were later rebuilt inside around the view. In the Bowl, Seaview and up toward Westgate, we regularly open the panel on a built-in or column refrigerator rather than a freestanding one, and a fair number of wet bars hold an undercounter ice machine as well. Those machines get the same diagnosis as any ice maker, filter first, then valve, fill tube and module, but the access is different and the cabinetry around them deserves care.
The other Edmonds pattern is water treatment. Remodels at this level often add a reverse-osmosis system under the sink and tee the refrigerator into it. RO water tastes good, but the storage tank delivers lower pressure than the street, and a fill valve is designed for a minimum pressure. When the tank runs half empty and the fridge filter is near the end of its life, the valve opens on schedule and the mold only half fills. That is not a broken ice maker, and we would rather show you a gauge reading than sell you one. Not every kitchen here looks like that: Esperance's 1950s houses and the hillside homes of Perrinville and Firdale tend to have simpler setups: a freestanding refrigerator, a filter in the door or grille, and a line through the floor.
Built-in refrigerators are anchored to the cabinets and slide out on rollers over finished floors, so before we move one we protect the flooring and check the anti-tip hardware. Most built-in ice repairs can be done from the front or the top grille without pulling the unit at all. When a part is specific to one model and is not on the van, we tell you the timing before ordering, so you are not left guessing about your ice. Wet-bar clear-ice machines work differently from a refrigerator's ice maker: water runs over a chilled plate and freezes in thin layers, then the slab drops onto a heated wire grid that cuts it into cubes. A burned-out grid, a weak water pump or a blocked drain each stops production in its own way.
Woodway's lots run from one-third of an acre up to two acres under tall trees, and kitchens there lean toward high-end built-ins. Esperance, the unincorporated pocket inside Edmonds whose voters have turned down annexation five times, is different again: roughly 35% of its houses date from the 1950s, and the refrigerators there are mostly freestanding models fed by lines added long after the houses went up. Both get the same prices and the same same-day window as the city proper, and so does Meadowdale up the hill to the north.
The city itself buys Everett water through the Alderwood Water & Wastewater District, at around 12.5 ppm of hardness. Some streets in south Edmonds and Woodway are reportedly on the Olympic View district, which buys Seattle water; both supplies are very soft. Downtown condos and the hilltop buildings finished in 2007 and 2008 round out the mix, with standard French-door units whose fill valves fail on the same schedule as anyone's. Swedish Edmonds on Highway 99 and the shops at Five Corners bracket many of the apartments and condos we visit, where compact kitchens push refrigerators tight against the wall and its water line.

Built-in and freestanding refrigerators use different parts, but the common repairs follow the same pattern: a replacement fill valve or a complete refrigerator ice maker. Ice maker repair in Edmonds starts at $295. That is an entry figure for the north Seattle area, not a quote; a Sub-Zero or column unit often takes longer and lands above it. The written estimate after the $85 diagnostic shows exactly where your repair lands. If you approve the repair, the diagnostic is counted inside the price instead of on top of it. Wet-bar machine repairs, such as a drain pump or cutter grid, are priced on the estimate once we know the model.

For built-ins, nearly always. Sub-Zero and other built-in refrigerators are designed to be serviced for decades, the ice system is one of the least expensive parts in them, and replacing one means matching panels and cabinet openings in a finished kitchen. The decision turns only when the sealed system has failed on a unit that is already very old. Freestanding refrigerators in Edmonds' 1960s and 1970s houses are a different calculation. If a fifteen-year-old French-door model needs a module and the freezer still holds 0°F, repair is the cheaper path. If it needs a module, a dispenser motor and a control board within the same year, we show you the combined price next to the cost of a comparable new model. Undercounter ice machines usually justify repair until the refrigeration system itself fails, since their pumps, drains and valves are modest parts.
Yes, in built-in, column and undercounter models. We start with the filter, since Sub-Zero cartridges are meant to be changed every six to twelve months and an overdue one starves the fill. Then we test the valve, check the fill tube and run the ice maker through its cycle. Many of those repairs finish on the first visit.
It often is. An RO tank delivers lower pressure than the street, and as it empties during the day the pressure drops further. Add a refrigerator filter near the end of its life and the fill valve can no longer fill the mold. We measure the pressure at the fridge and tell you whether a valve, a filter or the RO setup is the limit.
Yes. We work on undercounter and clear-ice machines from Sub-Zero, U-Line, Scotsman, Marvel, KitchenAid and others. Common problems are a clogged drain or failed drain pump, a weak water pump, film on the freezing plate and a cutter grid that no longer slices the slab. We diagnose first and price the repair in writing.
No. Off-peak, Esperance is roughly 8–11 minutes from the shop and Woodway about 12–15, and neither carries a distance charge. Contact us in the morning, Monday to Saturday, and a same-day visit is normal; the model number, given on the call or in the booking form, lets us bring the right part.
Follow the interval in your owner's manual; for many machines it is about every six months. Scale builds slowly on Edmonds' soft water, but film and slime still form in the reservoir and on the freezing plate. Use only the cleaner the manufacturer approves, since the wrong chemical can damage plated parts.
