Frigidaire Ice Maker Not Working: Fill Valve First, Then the Frozen Tube, Then the Module
Frigidaire ice makers stop over water delivery more than mechanism: weeping fill valves, frozen fill tubes, starved flow. The check order that works.

Brier is nearly all owner-occupied houses on big lots, and many of them keep a second refrigerator in the garage. We repair the ice makers in both, 7–9 minutes from our Mountlake Terrace shop, with a written price before any work.
Brier incorporated in 1965 largely to stay out of Mountlake Terrace, and it has kept its single-family zoning ever since, with a minimum lot of 12,500 square feet. Roughly 95% of homes are detached houses and about nine in ten are owner-occupied. Big lots mean big garages and outbuildings, and that means a second refrigerator, an upright freezer or a shop fridge with its own ice maker. When a Brier family calls about ice, our first question is which refrigerator, because the garage unit and the kitchen unit fail for very different reasons.
Most of the town was built between 1980 and 1999, more than a third of it in the 1980s alone. Those kitchens were plumbed for an ice maker from the start, typically with a copper line and compression fittings running up through the floor. The original refrigerator is long gone, and each replacement since has meant sliding a new one in against that same line. Forty years of swaps leave crushed ferrules, tired shutoff valves and fittings that weep just enough to freeze or rot the subfloor. Ranch houses from the 1950s and 1960s, and a few homes on lots from the 1924 Shasta Park subdivision, round out the town; those got their ice maker lines during later remodels, often run through a crawl space.
A garage in Brier swings from near freezing in a January cold snap to well into the eighties on a summer afternoon. Most kitchen refrigerators are not designed for either end. Many use a single thermostat in the fresh-food section, so when the garage is cold, that section rarely asks for cooling, the compressor sits idle, and the freezer quietly warms until the ice maker stops cycling. Nothing is broken, which is why a new module will not fix it. We check what your model is rated for, measure both compartments, and tell you plainly whether a part, a different location or a garage-rated unit is the answer. If the garage refrigerator came out of the kitchen during a remodel, its water line may run along the garage wall too, exposed to the same cold that idles the compressor.
Inside the house, long-term ownership works in your favor. Many Brier owners know exactly when the last refrigerator went in and who moved it, and that history points us straight to the fitting or valve that was disturbed. If the shutoff behind the fridge or under the sink is a 1980s multi-turn valve that no longer opens fully, we show you, and if the cure is plumbing inside a wall or crawl space, we say so before quoting anything. A slow weep at a fitting often shows first as a dark stain on the subfloor, visible from the crawl space long before the ice maker notices any drop in pressure.
Brier has no state highway, so we come in along 228th or 236th Street SW or up Brier Road, usually within 7–9 minutes off-peak. Water is the Alderwood district's Everett supply at about 12.5 ppm, soft enough that scale is not on our list of suspects. The Alderwood Manor streets that use Brier mailing addresses are covered the same way. If the refrigerator in question sits in a detached shop, mention it when you book, since power and water out there are often separate runs from the house.

Garage calls often end with advice instead of parts, but when something has failed, the usual repairs are short jobs: a frozen fill line thawed and protected so it does not refreeze, or a complete replacement ice maker assembly. Ice maker repair in Brier starts at $295; treat that as a floor price in the north Seattle metro, not a quote. What you approve is the figure on our written estimate after the $85 diagnostic, and the diagnostic is included once you go ahead. Looking at the kitchen fridge and the garage fridge on one visit takes $10 off the second diagnostic.

Many garage refrigerators in Brier are the kitchen fridge from two remodels ago, moved out when the new one arrived. If it still cools well and only the ice maker has quit, a module or valve is an easy yes, because it costs a fraction of any new refrigerator. The harder call is a unit past about fifteen years that struggles every winter and every summer. It is using more electricity than a newer model, and no ice maker part will change how it handles the garage. In that case we tell you what the repair costs, what the climate problem is, and let you weigh it. In the kitchen, the 1980s cabinet opening usually fits standard-depth refrigerators, so replacement is simpler than in a tight remodel, but a fridge that holds 0°F in the freezer still deserves the cheaper ice maker repair first.
Most household refrigerators control the compressor from the fresh-food section. In a cold Brier garage, that section stays chilly on its own, so the compressor runs very little and the freezer warms past the point where the ice maker will cycle. It usually starts working again in spring. Some models are built for unheated garages; we can tell you whether yours is.
Yes, and it is worth doing if both are giving you trouble. Having both looked at during one trip takes $10 off the diagnostic for the second refrigerator, and each gets its own written price. A call about the garage fridge sometimes turns up a weeping fitting behind the kitchen unit as well.
Water is spilling past the mold. Either the fill valve is not closing all the way, so it keeps dribbling after the tray is full, or the refrigerator is tilted enough that one end of the mold overflows. We level the cabinet first, then test the valve, and replace it only if it is the one leaking through.
Make sure the refrigerator has power at the outlet and breaker, that the ice maker switch is on and its arm is down, and that the shutoff valve to the fridge is fully open. Check the filter date and put a thermometer in the freezer; it should read near 0°F. Avoid using heat guns or sharp tools on a frozen tube.
A morning call, any day from Monday to Saturday, usually gets a same-day visit. Off-peak, the drive from our shop takes 7–9 minutes, all of our technicians can take the call, and common valves and ice makers ride on the van. Giving us the model number on the phone, or in the booking form, lets us check the part first.
