Dishwasher repair across Everett, from century-old kitchens to new apartments
North Everett holds most of the city’s 7,400-plus pre-1940 houses, and the rest of town has a large share of apartments and duplexes. Both shape its dishwasher calls. South Everett is 18–23 minutes up I-5 from our shop; the north end, 25–32.

Everett's oldest neighborhoods, Riverside, Northwest and the streets around Rucker Hill, were built for mill workers in the early 1900s. Their kitchens were laid out long before anyone expected a dishwasher, so the one you have now was fitted in later: sometimes an 18-inch machine squeezed beside the sink, sometimes a full-size unit where a drawer bank used to be, and in some rentals a portable model on casters that clamps to the faucet. Each brings its own failures, and the old drain pipes behind them add a few more. Small kitchens also mean tight access: we often slide the machine out onto a towel-padded floor to reach the hose clamps and wiring box, and we put it back square and anchored when the work is done.
South of downtown, the picture changes. Annexations from 1959 to 1972 and the growth that followed Boeing's arrival filled Silver Lake, Cascade View, Holly and the Everett Mall area with houses and apartment complexes from the 1960s through the 90s. Today fewer than half of Everett homes are detached houses, and close to one in five is in a building of twenty or more units. Those kitchens hold standard Whirlpool, GE, Frigidaire and Samsung machines that wear out on a steady, predictable schedule: door gaskets and latches first, then drain pumps, then the occasional control board. Rentals near the Navy base and the Everett Mall turn over often, and a machine used gently by one tenant may be run twice a day by the next.

Mill-town plumbing, rentals and Everett's own water
In north Everett, roughly 16% of the city's homes predate 1940, more than 7,400 houses, and their plumbing has usually been patched rather than replaced. A dishwasher pump can only move water as fast as the drain downstream allows. When the kitchen sink is also slow, or grey water rises in the basin as the machine pumps out, the blockage is often in old cast-iron or galvanized pipe past the dishwasher connection. We check the machine side first: filter, pump, hose and air gap. If they are clear, we tell you so plainly, and you can call a plumber for the house line instead of paying us for a pump you do not need.
Portable dishwashers deserve a mention, because older rentals without room for a built-in often rely on one. They connect to the faucet through a quick coupler and drain back into the sink. The coupler, its hoses and the threaded aerator adapter wear out and leak, and the machines themselves fail in the same places as built-ins. We repair both types.
Everett runs its own water system, bringing Spada Reservoir water from the Sultan River to the Chaplain treatment plant. Hardness averages about 12.5 ppm, and the city adds soda ash to raise the pH for corrosion control. Neither affects a dishwasher badly, but soft water does make detergent more aggressive, so glass etching is a common Everett complaint. A full pod in every load is usually more than a city-water household needs.
Everett dishwasher repair starting prices
Everett dishwasher repair starts at $255. A tired drain pump and a door latch that no longer catches are the two repairs we make most often here, with gaskets, couplers and inlet valves close behind. That figure opens the category across our service area; it is not a quote for your machine. The exact amount is set in writing after the $85 diagnostic, and the drive to north Everett adds nothing to it. If the culprit is the house drain rather than the machine, you pay only the diagnostic and leave with a clear note for your plumber.

Repair or replace in an Everett home
In the 1960s to 1990s houses and apartments of south Everett, the usual rules apply: a machine under about ten years with one failed part is worth repairing, while an older one needing a pump and a board, or with a rusting tub, is usually ready to go. North Everett is different. When a dishwasher was retrofitted into a century-old kitchen, its opening may be 18 inches, an odd depth, or framed around old cabinetry, and a new machine can need carpentry or a different model class. That makes repairs more attractive for longer. For portable units, a worn coupler or hose is a small fix, but a failed pump on an older portable often costs close to a new one. In rentals, the owner usually makes the call, and a landlord with several units may prefer one model across all of them for simpler upkeep. We give you the figures for each path and an honest view of the machine.
Common questions
Can you repair a portable dishwasher that hooks to the faucet?
Yes. Portables share most of their parts with built-in machines: pumps, valves, heaters, latches and boards. The faucet coupler, hoses and aerator adapter are extra wear points, and leaks at the faucet are usually a simple fix. Have the model number handy when you phone, and we will tell you which parts we can carry.
How long does it take you to get to north Everett?
North Everett, around Legion Park, Riverside and Northwest, is about 25–32 minutes from our Mountlake Terrace shop off-peak. South Everett and the Everett Mall area are closer, about 18–23 minutes. The longer drive does not change our prices, and same-day visits are normal for morning calls Monday through Saturday.
Does Everett's treated water harm dishwashers?
No. The city's water is soft, about 12.5 ppm of hardness, and adjusted with soda ash to protect pipes from corrosion. That is easy on heaters and spray arms. The main side effect is that detergent works harder on soft water, so use a smaller dose to avoid etched glasses.
My 1920s kitchen has an 18-inch dishwasher. Can you still fix it?
Yes. Compact 18-inch machines from Bosch, GE, Frigidaire, Whirlpool and others use similar parts to full-size models, and we repair them regularly in older Everett homes. Replacement choices in that width are narrower, which often makes repair the better value. The model number on the door-edge tag, read to us on the phone or entered in the booking form, helps us bring the right parts.
Do you work in Everett apartments and duplexes?
Yes, about half of Everett homes are in multi-unit buildings and we work in many of them. If you rent, the owner or property manager usually approves repairs. We diagnose, write down the price and the cause, and the work goes ahead once the person responsible for the unit agrees.
